An Employee’s Guide to a Successful First Day at Work: A blog on how to excel at your job.

  • There are a few things that you can do to make your first day at work a success. Here are some tips to help you get off on the right foot:
  • Be prepared. You don’t want to be caught unprepared when you start your new job, so make sure that you’re ready. Do your homework and learn as much as possible about the company and the role before you start. This will help you feel more confident when you walk into your first meeting or training session.
  • Don’t be shy about asking questions. If there’s something that doesn’t make sense, ask someone for clarification. Even though your colleagues may have been working there longer than you have, they don’t know everything about the company or their jobs — and neither do you! So don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn from them as well as from your superiors.
  • Be friendly and outgoing; this is not just another day at school! Your coworkers are just as important as your boss in making sure that everything goes smoothly and everyone gets along well together — so don’t be shy! Introduce yourself to everyone in your department who isn’t already familiar with who you are (and even those who are!).
